Monthly payments to you from the state for you to purchase and control your own support at home.

FUNDING FROM YOUR LOCAL HEALTH AUTHORITY FOR YOUR SUPPORT AT HOME.

Local Health Authorities and councils in many areas are starting to work more closely together to support people at home. Some areas have ‘joint’ or ‘pooled’ budgets for both social and health funding to enable people to remain independent in their own home.

COUNCIL OR HEALTH AUTHORITY FUNDING

Support at home is most usually funded by your local council for the more basic ‘social’ aspects of a person’s support – such as bathing and eating and social inclusion.

Should your support however be of a more ‘medical’ or ‘health’ related need then this could be funded by your local Health Authority.

Talk to your social services department of the local council for advice.

HEALTH FUNDING OF A PERSONAL BUDGETS FOR SUPPORT AT HOME

Some Health Authorities are taking part in a Government pilot to give ‘health’ funding to people as a personal budget. This is a sum of money allocated to you from the Health Authority to enable you to purchase your own support at home to meet your assessed needs. This is funding paid at the beginning of each month or ‘four week period’ for the period ahead. The money will need to be paid into a separate bank account in your name for future audit purposes.

YOUR ‘HEALTH’ FUNDED PERSONAL BUDGET AND HCD

Irrespective of whether your local Health Authority is one of the pilot areas for ‘personal budgets’ HCD can still support you at home to the full principles of personalisation through the use of an ‘HCD client Funding’ bank account if your local Health Authority will agree to up-front funding of your support needs. In this circumstance HCD becomes a service provider on behalf of the Health Authority.

CONTACT HCD

Should you need any more help or guidance on this ‘health’ aspect of your support at home, then please contact HCD and ask to speak to an HCD ‘Enquiry Support Officer’ who will be pleased to help.
