We wanted to let you all know about one of our team members, Carla Stevenson who has done some amazing fundraising this year by taking part in many charity runs.

Carla, who works in our accounts team at head office, has taken part in the Great North Run – half marathon, Rother Valley 5k Bluebell Wood colour dash and the Great Eastern Run 5k in Peterborough.

All runs this year have been to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield who provides care to children with a shortened life expectancy. Bluebell Wood assists the whole family both during the life of the ill child and also to the family through their bereavement.

Carla started running in February 2012 to lose weight for her wedding in May 2012 and then she just carried on from there entering 5k runs. Carla says:

“I never thought I would ever run in the Great North Run, but I can say it was one of the best days of my life, very emotional but rewarding when you cross the finish line. Running for Bluebell Wood inspired me and made me even more determined to do the best I could.”

Carla achieve an amazing time of 2 hours 15 mins 29 secs for the 13.1 mile Great North Run half marathon and in a joint effort with her husband Mark they have raised over £1,000 for Bluebell Wood.

Carla goes on to say:

“I run at least 3 times per week as well as spinning twice a week (but looking forward to the rest now). I used to say I would never be able to run – and in fact back in February 2012 I couldn’t run very far at all but with support from my husband and a goal to aim for it becomes easier and I proved that by running 13.1mile!!!!!”

Everyone here at HomeCareDirect is immensely proud of Carla and Mark and the amazing achievements they have made this year and how much they have raised for a great cause in Bluebell Wood. We’d like to say a HUGE congratulation to them both and thank them for sharing their inspiring story with us.
