For all involved in self-directed support, we believe Together is Better!
HomeCareDirect has a long history of working in partnership with charities and voluntary groups nationwide. We value the vital services that are supplied from this sector, and the positive outcomes they provide for people who use our service.
At the support planning stage we will always look to direct people to as many services in their local community as possible that can support them to live independently at home. There are many specialist charities whose services can be built into someone’s personal budget which can lead to a knowledgeable and experienced circle of support.
To show our support for the third sector, in 2013 we founded our charitable arm Together is Better in response to concerns over funding cuts for charities and voluntary groups, who help to support many people in communities nationwide.
Together is Better aims to promote personal budgets, self-directed support and partnership working in order to improve people’s health and well-being. The goal is to help people live independently in their own home for as long as possible with complete control over how they receive their support.
In order to achieve this Together is Better is:
- Launching a series of local Together is Better directories of charities and voluntary groups that people can access to improve their health and well-being.
- Creating information leaflets. Helping charities and voluntary groups promote personal budgets to their members, since personal budgets and direct payments are the vehicle for people to take control over their care at home and choose the services they wish to receive.
- Campaigning for the increase of donations from the private sector to the third sector in order to support charities and voluntary groups in financially difficult times.
As a pilot, we are asking the people we support in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, to select a charity that has a positive impact on their health and well-being.
We are then making ongoing donations to the charity as recognition of the impact they’re having in the Kirklees region and the services they provide to the people who we help to direct their own support.
