We’re launching a new initiative within the company called Give and Gain. This is aimed at giving something back to the communities that we live in, whilst spending time with the people our service is designed to help and support.

Umbrella Give & Gain DayWe feel that we all spend too much time looking at the computer screen and on the phone rather than actively getting out into the community and spending time with people!

Therefore, HomeCareDirect is donating 1 day a year to local charities for each of our head office staff to volunteer in the community with a range of people with varying support needs. This could be anything from gardening, helping out at charity fun days or simply being hands on at a community centre.

We started this with a day of gardening at a charity called Umbrella in Derby who support disabled children, young people and their families, to realise their potential and transform their lives. This can be through a variety of initiatives, ranging from activities and work initiatives to healthy eating programmes.

It was the healthy eating programme that Bruce Adams, our Business Development Manager and Mandy Shaw, our Human Resources Manager got involved in. They spent the day helping Umbrella to dig a new vegetable patch at a supported living home, that they will be using to educate disabled children and adults in the importance of healthy eating.

A really positive day was had by all although Bruce and Mandy paid for it in aching muscles for a few days!

We will keep you posted on all the Give and Gain activities that we take part in, hopefully with some more photos too!

If you know of a charity that could benefit from our Give and Gain scheme then please get in touch with us here.
