City of London Council
The City of London is the world’s leading international financial and business centre with the unusual ratio of 33 times more workers than residents; it also has its own unique system of administration and is not classified as a “borough”, but is a small district at the heart of the capital.
The City of London has a strong collection of ceremonies, for example the yearly Lord Mayor’s Show. Whenever the Queen makes a state entry to the City, she meets a red cord raised by City police at Temple Bar, and then engages in a colourful ceremony involving the lord mayor, his sword, assorted aldermen and sheriffs, and a character called the Remembrancer.
