The London Borough of Croydon is in South London, it is the largest London borough by population and is the southernmost borough of London. The name “Croydon” comes from the Anglo Saxons.
It’s a little known fact that the Sherlock Holmes author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was actually a resident of Tennison Road in South Norwood! He even featured Croydon in some of his Sherlock Homes mysteries. Conan Doyle is not the only famous person to have graced the town though other famous faces who have lived in or were born in Croydon (apart from Kate Moss of course) include billionaire Topshop boss Sir Philip Green, artist Tracey Emin, illusionist Derren Brown, comedian Ronnie Corbett, England football manager Roy Hodgson, singer Kirsty MacColl, guitarist Jeff Beck, Dave Prowse who played Darth Vader in Star Wars and star of The Inbetweeners James Buckley.
