London Borough of Islington Council
Islington is a district in Greater London and part of the London Borough of Islington. It is a mainly residential district of Inner London, extending from Islington High Street to Highbury Fields, encompassing the area around the busy Upper Street and Essex Road.
The area is included in the British version of Monopoly, which features The Angel, Islington. In the game The Angel is the third-cheapest property on the board, reflecting the time in which the board was drawn up, rather than the district’s current status as home to celebrities, media-types, politicians, and City lawyers and bankers. The game licensees met over tea in the Lyon’s Corner House, built on the site of the original Angel Inn, to consider the names of places they planned to use, and they included ‘The Angel, Islington’. Another nearby Monopoly location is Pentonville Road (mostly within the Borough of Islington), which runs from King’s Cross station to The Angel.
