7th to 11th November is Social Care Commitment week, a full week dedicated to celebrating the commitment and achievements of those who have signed it.

During the week, the Social Care Commitment and HomeCareDirect would like to encourage you to sign up and publically declare your commitment on social media by using the hashtag #SCCWeek.

The Social Care Commitment is a great way of setting out clear goals and shared values for everyone in the organisation as well as helping to give a structure to inductions, appraisals and supervisions. It can also provide supporting evidence for Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections and the Care Certificate.

HomeCareDirect signed up to the Social Care Commitment in 2013 to improve practice alongside many other providers, we have continued to sign up to this great initiative ever since.

The Social Care Commitment, developed by Skills for Care, is designed to help implement the code of conduct and national minimum standards, by encouraging employers to make public commitments to develop their staff and employees to make private pledges to improve.

The Social Care Commitment is the sector’s promise to provide people who need care and support with high quality services. It’s made up of seven ‘I will’ statements with associated tasks that everyone who signs up to the commitment needs to do – for example, I will take account of potential employees values, attitudes and behaviours when recruiting new staff.

Employees sign up too with slightly different ‘I will’ statements and associated tasks – for example, I will always promote and uphold the privacy, dignity, rights, health and wellbeing of people who need care and support.

With HomeCareDirect being a person centred organisation we already use many of the commitments codes on a daily basis – so it’s important to share our way of working to encourage a more personalised approach for both individuals and their personal assistants. It has been a privilege to work with an industry leader in a national commitment that is widely recognised as having such a positive impact on the work that organisations in the care sector do so we wanted to remind you all about Social Care Commitment Week in our e-newsletter.

To find out more about the Social Care Commitment you can visit their website here or feel free to get in touch with us here at HomeCareDirect if there is anything you’d like to ask us.
