From April many households across the country will see changes to the level of their benefits. Make sure you are aware of the changes and how they may affect you. The best way to do this is to check with your local council or the DWP, but here at HomeCareDirect we are doing a series of blogs which give you an idea of some of the big changes that may affect you.

Today’s blog focuses on Housing Benefit.

The maximum amount of benefits payments that a working-age household receives will be capped at £350 a week for a single person and £500 a week for a single parent, couple or family.

This means some households may experience a cut in their benefits, some of a few pounds and some facing cuts of up to £100 a week.

This isn’t coming into effect from the 1st of April, unlike many other changes under the Welfare Reform, in the coming months your council should contact the households that are affected by this benefits cap and will offer you full information on how the changes will affect you and they will offer you advise on how to prepare for the changes.  It is likely that this changes will come into place between April and October 2013.

If you believe you could be affected by any of these changes the best this to do is to check with your local council to see how your personal circumstances and allowances may be affected, but here at HomeCareDirect we’re happy to help point you in the right direction if you wish to contact us here.
