A special Question Time event is planned in Westminster during Carers Week today from 6pm to 8pm.

Prepared to Care? How the NHS and Social Care can support carers is chaired by David Brindle (The Guardian’s Public Services Editor) the panel includes Vanessa Matthews a carer, Minister for Care and Support Norman Lamb MP, Sharon Allen CEO of Skills for Care, Sandie Keene President of ADASS, Professor Nigel Sparrow from the Royal College of GPs and Sally Warren of Public Health England.

The Question Time will explore how the evolving landscape of service delivery can support the UK’s growing population of carers – now at 6.5 million people. Specifically it will challenge the panel to consider how society can support carers as they look after our ageing population alongside a growing incidence of family and friends with disabilities and serious illnesses. The panel will explore these issues coupled with the changes to service delivery and cuts to public funding.

The panel will be asked questions from a diverse audience including carers, representatives from the campaign’s charity partners and sponsors and key stakeholders.
