Following on from our blog in September about one of our carers is taking part in the Nottingham Memory Walk in October to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her nan, Alice.

Danielle completed her Nottingham Memory Walk at Wollaton Hall on 3rd of October and so far overall she has raised £1,172.00 which exceeds her £1,000 target for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Alzheimer’s Society is the leading UK care and research charity for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, their families and carers.

As you can see in the great pictures she has shared with us Danielle’s mum, nephew and partner also did the walk with her, from everyone here at HomeCareDirect we would like to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Danielle and her family on this brilliant achievement.

Danielle has worked as a carer in Derbyshire for HomeCareDirect since 2008 and she is doing this walk along with her mum and fiancé in memory of her dear nan Alice who suffered from Alzheimer’s.

As Danielle says on her JustGiving page:

“As a family we found it very difficult to come to terms with but helped nan as much as we could to stimulate and keep her mind jogged of things to help her remember.  I know personally I found it difficult to see her deteriorate and eventually she didn’t even know who I was. She didn’t realise I was her granddaughter. I feel very strongly about raising awareness and fundraising for this worthy cause because as a family when nan got admitted to hospital we realised at the time there didn’t seem to be a lot of support in hospitals for people who suffered with the illness and their families.  So if I can raise as much money as possible to help this charity to help other families through what we went through it will make me feel like I’ve done something to at least help others that are suffering like I know we did. Unfortunately nan passed away last year so I’d also like to do this in memory of her and make her proud.

Please, please sponsor as much or as little as you can as every penny counts in trying to help other families suffering like we did and hopefully one day there will be a cure to this awful illness.”

Again from all of us here at HomeCareDirect well done to Danielle and her family for this great fundraising event for such a great cause.
