Personal Budgets

Personal Budgets, sometimes known as Individual Budgets, were introduced to allow people to take control of their lives. They also enhance the way in which care and support is delivered to those individuals with specific needs.

What is a Personal Budget?

Personal Budgets are pools of money allocated to individuals by their local authority. This allows those individuals to choose how they receive their care and support, either through a council organisation, an agency or through family and friends.

Do I manage my own Personal Budget?

Yes if you want to. You can take complete control of everything, or you can choose HomeCareDirect to manage your budget. This way, you will not have to fill out lots of paperwork. If you manage your Personal Budget yourself, you will have to “employ” people to care for you, which, as you can imagine, can create a lot of administration. HomeCareDirect act as the legal employers, taking care of all the paper work, taxes and so on, leaving you to get on with your life.

How do I access a Personal Budget?

If you are aged over 18, you can request an assessment for a personal budget. It’s a very straightforward process and led by you. You can involve friends, family and carers in the process, if required.

How much will my Personal Budget be?

This all depends on your own care and support needs.

Can I choose who provides my care and support?

Yes. This is the great thing about Personal Budgets, you can request that your siblings or family care for you, or even your next door neighbour. HomeCareDirect can arrange that these people are trained and paid, for providing your care and support. You can also carry on receiving care and support from professional agencies.
