Launched today, alongside World Book Day, Irwin Mitchell are running a competition to encourage children and adults to share their positive stories and personal experiences of disability by entering a short story or poem with a maximum of 500 words.  This can be your own personal experience, or that of living with/caring for a disabled person.

KIDS is a leading disabled children’s charity that has been in existence for over 40 years working to enable disabled children and young people and their families to enjoy their lives. They work with children and young people from birth to the age of 25 who are disabled; that is they have a physical, sensory or mental impairment (including mental health issues) which in interaction with social, attitudinal and environmental constraints creates barriers which hinder their full and equal participation in society. Their work is also with the individuals who are affected by this situation (such as families and young carers).

Irwin Mitchell and KIDS believe that there are no limits for disabled people so they would like you to tell them about your positive stories and experiences through this competition. Entries will be judged on individual merit and not on the standard of writing technique.

Now is the time to start planning your entry with a chance to win:
 – 1st Prize – a Kindle Fire and £50 book voucher
 – Runner Up Prize – £25 book voucher.

Entries can be made online via: or via their Facebook page. The closing date for all entries is Midnight on 30 April 2014.

Here at HomeCareDirect we think this sounds like a great competition and we wish everyone who enters the best of luck and look forward to reading the entries once these are available. If you’d like to share your stories with us please get in touch here.
