Personal Assistant / Support Worker in Leicester

Role Description

This wonderful role is supporting a young lady with Autism, OCD and learning difficulties. Her family are looking for someone to help her overcome her anxiety surrounding going back out in the community. The client finds it difficult to go to appointments, go for walks and to partake in any exercise in general. Your role would be encouraging her to go on her walks, exercise, partake in activities and keep fit and healthy. She also enjoys long drives so taking her on these as well. Additionally, your other role would be helping the support workers when she is displaying challenging and aggressive behavior. The type of individuals they are looking for is someone reliable, resilient and compassionate. The ideal candidate will be extremely well organised, articulate, focused with an excellent eye for detail. During each shift you will either be working in the clients home, or wherever they are, to be available as and when they need help.

Responsibilities Include:


  • Planning ahead for all activities to avoid meltdowns
  • Staying consistent with all tasks ( due to her OCD she does not like a change in her routine)
  • Promoting her to exercise
  • Coming up with creative ways to keep her active
  • Taking her to activities and taking part in the activities that she likes to do such as swimming, playing games in the garden and going for walks
  • Willing to go out with her once a week to get a meal
  • Accompanying her on her daily walks once a day
  • Accompanying her with the support of her family and support worker to appointments
  • She is not aware of road safety and other dangers so making sure she isn’t in harm’s way
  • Sometimes she can become very anxious on trips and she can have a meltdown which can lead to aggressive behavior, so making sure she isn’t a risk to the public, to the support workers or to herself
  • Being one step ahead and anticipating a meltdown
  • Reducing risk factors  


  • Noting down things the client needs and passing it on to her family
  • Making sure the property is safe and secure
  • Preventing hazards
  • The main aim is to assist the individual to live a full and meaningful life that develops their potential and promotes their rights

 The successful Personal Assistants / Supports Workers will meet the following criteria:

  • Can handle a meltdown
  • Possess excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to successfully multi-task
  • Kind, patient, understanding, empathetic individual
  • Have an understanding of security and confidentiality regarding staff, families and vulnerable adults
  • Ability to anticipate a potential conflict


  • Someone who knows how to deescalate a situation with a vulnerable adult
  • Have the ability to develop and promote positive working relationships with the client, their family and professional colleagues
  • Have a desire to work with people with Autism, OCD and learning difficulties
  • Someone who will push the client to go out in the community, do activities and make the most of their day
  • A good motivator
  • Someone with initiative and is able to get on with things
  • Someone who plans ahead
  • Someone who can fully commit to this job role because if you were to cancel last minute or not show up to your shift it would mean the support worker would have no support that day. Each shift is assigned to two people beforehand. If someone cannot do there shift because something came up they would need to have sorted out cover in advance and informed everyone involved.
  • Preferably have a background in either security, or having worked with at risk and individuals
  • Someone who is interested in health and fitness
  • Knows about nutrition
  • Someone who has worked in a similar role before would be desirable
  • Care or mental health background: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Personal trainer, sport or sport psychology qualifications would be desirable
  • Hold a full clean driving license for at least 1 year due to insurance (applicants with a valid driving license and car are preferable for this role, however if you do not have one please still apply and we will review)
  • Flexible and punctual

In accordance with CQC regulations, appointment to this position will be subject to satisfactory DBS, reference and medical checks.
