Support Worker – York

Job Description

Purpose of the role

An intervenor is someone who has been specifically trained to work with deafblind / multi-sensory impaired young people and their families. The development of strong relationships with key staff will be vital for the clients well-being and progress. Key people working with the client in the role of an intervenor/s have very positive benefits for her, providing support in the home and wider community and giving her the security she needs to access information, communicate and move around her environment.

An intervenor acts as the eyes and ears of the deafblind person, providing individual support to enable effective communication and the reception of clear information. The intervenor enables the deafblind person to take full advantage of learning and social experiences thereby allowing fuller access to the environment. The intervenor works towards an independent level of functioning with appropriate support.


  • Attend your allocated shifts as per the rota and communicate any issues with the team leader
  • The correct process is to be followed with regards to taking annual leave- you should give your form to the Team Leader 4 weeks prior to the proposed date for authorisation
  • All staff are to comple the appropriate documentation as requested by HomeCareDirect or other professionals.
  • Ensure all correspondence is sent to head office in a timely manner.
  • To contact HomeCareDirect with regards to any issues or concerns.
  • To ensure all client care plans and risk assessments are adhered to at all times and alert HCD of any and all changes.
  • Be part of team meetings with HomeCareDirect.
  • Complete house hold tasks and documenting clearly
  • Assisting with stock taking, ensuring the Team Leader is informed when items require ordering (Medication, Gloves etc)
  • Following food hygiene guidelines with regards to cooking and storing food
  • Documenting all financial transactions correctly
  • Ensure all Health and Safety routines are adhered to and any issues are reported to HCD & the Team Leader
  • Assisting the client to attend all appointments relating to their health
  • Assisting the client to have a balanced nutritious diet
  • Liaising with professionals in the clients life.

             General Work Duties

 You will be required to assist the client in the tasks below:

  • Meeting people and socialising
  • Driving / getting around / visiting family
  • Personal care such as washing or dressing
  • Attending medical visits/collecting prescriptions
  • Administration of medication (PAs administering medication keep a written record of all drugs given in accordance with the Medication Policy)
  • Shopping
  • Preparing and cooking food for the client
  • Cleaning and housework
  • Laundry
  • Ensuring the client’s home is hygienic and safe

Hours of Work: 

Full time hours of 37.5 job share considered

Pay Rate:

£17.00 per hour Mon-Fri 7am to 10pm

£18.50 per hour Sat and Sun 7am to 10pm

£8.21 per hour for sleep in shift 10pm to 7am
