Support Worker (Learning Disabilities) in Worcester

Job Description

HomeCareDirect are looking for professional person to support our client who has a Learning Disability, to live a full and active life in their family home and out in the community. 

Rate of Pay: £9.50 per hour

Hours: 30 hours per week to meet the needs of the client.

18 hours dialysis appointments on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6 social support and 6 hours for general appointments.

General Work Duties

You will be required to assist the client in the tasks below:

  • Support the client with attendance at renal dialysis sessions and medical appointments
  • Support the client to attend any other health appointments that are planned
  • Support the client to access the wider community and activities
  • Help the client with cutting his food if required
  • Remain competent in all training issued by HomeCareDirect
  • Monitor the client’s bowel movement in his log notes and report any changes in bowel habit to his GP
  • Provide assistance with washing when required by the client
  • Assist the client to dress in the morning when needed
  • Monitor the client’s skin health and any changes to the skin’s condition / sensation to the GP. Also report this on a body map and return to HomeCareDirect
  • Help the client to moisturise their skin when needed
  • Be aware of the importance of a healthy, balanced diet and be able to recognise and treat the symptoms of high and low blood sugars
  • Assist the client to collect his medication from the pharmacy
  • Record all medication errors, incidents, refusals or near-misses on the correct form, inform HomeCareDirect and return the form within 48h hours of occurrence.
  • Encourage the client to attend the gym so he can meet his weight loss goal
  • Encourage the client to mobilise for at least 5 minutes each hour to relieve pressure on the skin
  • Support the client to ensure his day is planned out and runs smoothly
  • Assist the client in maintaining his personal safety
  • Support the client to introduce more enjoyment to his life with planning enjoyable activities

Experience

It is desirable for applicants to have previous experience in the care sector with Learning disability and experience with challenging behaviours. Car drivers essential and access to own vehicle with car business insurance.
